Kalen has been involved in the sport of softball as a player, coach, and volunteer for the past 38 years. To say his life revolves around softball would be a significant understatement. He has coached at the club level with the Prince Albert Astros, and the Saskatoon Diamondbacks. Kalen coached at the provincial team level as both an assistant and head coach winning a silver medal at the 2017 Canada Summer Games with Team Saskatchewan. He also won a bronze medal at the WBSC Men's world Championship with Team Canada, and a gold medal with the U18 Men's National Team at the Pan American Championships in 2019. 

Kalen has also been involved extensively at the grassroots and development level as well running successful Learn to Play programs over the years as well.

His love for the game is infectious and his desire to pass his knowledge on to young softball players is second to none!
